When the body of Jacob Kieler Junior is discovered in a stately old house in Reykjavik on a cold January morning in 1973, Jóhann Pálsson, an expert in the emerging field of forensics, is called to the scene. He soon discovers something even more unsettling than the killing itself: The victim’s father, Jacob Senior, was shot to death in the same living room nearly 30 years earlier. Through diaries Jacob Senior kept throughout his lifetime - detailing his travels abroad honing his engineering skills in wartime Europe and on the Chicago & North Western Railway in the US - Pálsson and his colleagues try to link Jacob Junior’s shooting and the death of Jacob Senior, an ambitious man dedicated to bringing the railroad to Iceland at any cost. 1. In this startling candid and poignant memoir, the legendary Emmy Award-winning star of The Young and the Restless, America´s number-one soap opera, chronicles his amazing life, from his birth in World War II Germany to his arrival in America to his rise to humanitarian and daytime superstar for the past 35 years. For nearly four decades, fans have welcomed the star of television´s number-one daytime show, The Young and the Restless, into their living rooms. While they´ve come to know and love the suave Victor Newman, few truly know the man behind the character, the supremely talented Eric Braeden. I´ll Be Damned is his story - a startling and uplifting true tale of war, deprivation, determination, fame, and social commitment that spans from Nazi Germany to modern Hollywood. Braeden´s journey from a hospital basement in Kiel to the soundstages of Los Angeles has taught him more about joy, heartbreak, fear, dignity, loss, love, loneliness, exhilaration, courage, persecution, and profound responsibility to the global community than he could have hoped to learn in several lifetimes. Growing up in the years after Germany´s defeat, Braeden knew very little about the atrocities of his parents´ generation until he arrived in America as a teenager - a discovery that horrified and transformed him. Trying to redress the wrongs of his homeland, he has dedicated his life to humanitarian work - even forming the German American Culture Society - working for decades to show the world that what we share as humans is far more important than what separates us from one another. Told with openness, candor, humor, heart, and occasional raw vulnerability, I´ll Be Damned reveals a man committed to making the world a better, more loving place. I´ll Be Damned will be a treasured keepsake for Y&R fans and is an inspiring testament to the goodness within us all. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Eric Braeden. A Doll´s House is a three-act play written by Norway´s Henrik Ibsen. It premiered at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, Denmark, on December 21, 1879. The play is set in a Norwegian town circa 1879. A Doll´s House was based on the life of Laura Kieler, a good friend of Ibsen. Much that happened between Nora and Torvald happened to Laura and her husband, Victor. Similar to the events in the play, Laura signed an illegal loan to save her husband. She wanted the money to find a cure for her husband´s tuberculosis. She wrote to Ibsen, asking for his recommendation of her work to his publisher, thinking that the sales of her book would repay her debt. At his refusal, she forged a check for the money. At this point she was found out. In real life, when Victor discovered Laura´s secret loan, he divorced her and had her committed to an asylum. Two years later, she returned to her husband and children at his urging, and she went on to become a well-known Danish author, living to the age of 83. The play is significant for the way it deals with the fate of a married woman, who at the time in Norway lacked reasonable opportunities for self-fulfillment in a male-dominated world. It aroused a great sensation at the time and caused a storm of outraged controversy that went beyond the theater to the world newspapers and society. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Carson Beck.
