Great Continental Railway Journeys - Series 2

In 1913, Europe was criss-crossed by a network of railways stretching from Finland in the North, to Constantinople in the East, and Cadiz in the West, all of them described in Bradshaw's Continental Railway Guide and General Handbook . Steered by his copy of this guide, Michael Portillo embarks on a series of six new railway adventures, travelling from station to station, visiting the towns and villages described by the Guide whilst telling the story of Europe in 1913. This two-disc set features six hour-long episodes covering six different journeys: Madrid to Gibraltar Turin to Venice Dresden to Kiel Copenhagen to Oslo Prague to Munich Bordeaux to Bilbao In this series, Michael returns to his native Spain to discover what the intrepid tourists of the Belle Epoque experienced on their travels through the fading Spanish Empire. He travels south from Madrid and finishes with tales of British espionage on the Rock of Gibraltar. The second journey takes Michael from the former political capital of Italy, Turin, to Casanova's capital of romance, Venice. Continuing to follow his Bradshaw's, in the third journey, Michael explores Germany and learns how tourists in the early 20th century would have been visiting quite a new country, which they admired and envied but also feared. Michael then travels north into Scandinavia and discovers the royal roots of those Edwardian travellers' close dynastic ties with the kingdoms of Denmark and Norway. He also visits the final resting place of George Bradshaw in Oslo. For his fourth journey, Michael explores the stunning Art Nouveau architecture of Prague, then travels through the Czech Republic, crossing into Bavaria, arriving in Munich and discovering an early 20th century pioneer who laid the foundations for the city's pre-eminence in science and technology today. In his final journey, Michael sets off to sample the delights of the French and Spanish Atlantic coast, heading first to Bordeaux and finishing in Bilbao in the Spanish Basque country.

This book reviews the state of knowledge and progress of research on food proteins, and in particular, milk proteins. Its basis is the Symposium on Milk Proteins that was held at the Federal Dairy Research Centre in Kiel, FRG, in June, 1988. Scien tists from around the world attended and addressed pure, as well as applied fields of protein research and technology. This book is divided into five sections, each adapted from the symposium's invited lectures, short communications, and poster presentations. New criteria for the "bio logical value" of dietary proteins and their relationships are considered according to: - Milk Proteins and Nitrogen Equilibrium - Milk Proteins and Ligands - Milk Proteins: Structural and Genetic Aspects - Milk Proteins: Technological and Functional Aspects - Milk Proteins and Clinical Nutrition Generally, different dietary proteins are classified according to their "biological value," i.e., their capacity to cause different retention of nitrogen in the body. But we think there are other intriguing leads worth studying that may help to identify which dietary proteins are best recommended for specific dietary situations or clini cal conditions. In addition, we have taken into consideration new fields such as attempts to determine the three-dimensional structure of proteins using two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, and the application of genetic engineering to the lactating cell. In other words, we are on the way to the transgenic cow with customized milk constituents and composition.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,3, Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, language: English, abstract: Selling and buying behavior in business to business markets has rapidly changed over the past decades as markets become more competitive, technology evolves fast and customer expectations have changed. Thus, the focus changed from the buyer or seller to being the sole individual responsible for handling business relationships. Nowadays, everybody in a company who can provide an input to the process is actively involved as the boundaries of different horizontal and vertical levels are fading which used to determine the scope of responsibility in the past. Therefore, the general terms of 'Buying Center' and 'Selling Center' have become important as they define the people being involved in a purchase. The aim of this dissertation is to provide an overview of the significant determinants of a buying and a selling center, the roles the individuals play in a purchase and the influences on buying and selling behavior on different levels. Additionally, the buying and selling process and the collaboration of the respective centers in the process are being considered. The first chapter focuses on the major changes of selling and buying in the past decades. Chapter three provides the general definitions of B2B markets, the goods being purchased and the terms of buying and selling centers. In addition, the major characteristics that determine a buying situation are being described. In the subsequent chapters, buying and selling behavior is being analyzed separately. Hence, chapter four outlines the roles in a buying center and analyzes who is likely to occupy these roles. After that, a model of the buying decision process is established to illustrate who is involved at which stage. With the purpose of surveying the preliminarily established assumptions of buying behavior, an interview with a buyer is conducted. At the end of the fourth chapter, the findings are summarized and implications for further research are provided. The fifth chapter elaborates the selling side of a purchase. Implications from the fourth chapter are included as the roles of the selling center and the seller's decision process are depicted. Subsequently, analogue to the previous chapter, theory is revised on the base of an interview with a selling agent. In the sixth chapter the two sides of a purchase and their members are considered jointly. Concluding, the key findings are outlined, implications for the management are evolved and recommendations for potential future research are made.
